Frequently Asked Questions

I've never learnt via an online course before. What can I expect?

Online music education is the most comprehensive way for aspiring musicians to learn an instrument. The best thing about the D.I.Y Drumming Online courses and curriculum is that:
- Your drum teacher Christian Nativo has 18 years of teaching experience and explains everything in a clear and thorough way
- You are able to access the course video and pdf content that you've paid for with 24/7 access via this website. That means that you can practice WHEN you want with no added pressure of weekly in person lessons.
-View multi camera footage in 4k HD resolution with crisp professional sound

Am I able to work through the courses if I don't have a drumkit?

Absolutely. Although having a drumkit to practice on is ideal, Christian has put together this special course on how to get started with the D.I.Y Drumming Curriculum/Courses without having a drumkit to begin with. Click here to view

What size drumsticks should I buy?

All students should start on 5A size drumsticks. A great brand and model is the Vic Firth 5A Wood Tip. Any drum shop or online retailer will be able to assist with this. If you can't source the brand Vic Firth, any brand will obviously do the job :-)

Is this a subscription service?

Absolutely not !! Once you purchase each D.I.Y Drumming Online course, it is yours to access 24/7 via our website.

How long before I see results?

This is a subjective question that really depends on how much work the student puts in. If the student is practicing 30mins/4 times a week and following everything that is advised and mentioned in each course, we expect the student to see results within 30-60 days*

*Individual results will obviously vary

Why does D.I.Y Drumming Online use a proprietary method for drum notation instead of regular drumming notation?

Christian Nativo invented the proprietary D.I.Y Drumming Online note method 13 years ago (way before online music education) as a way to engage new beginner drummers who found regular drum notation overwhelming.
This proprietary note method was never meant as a replacement to regular drumming notation, but rather, an in between step so that once students were comfortable learning Christian's note/letter method, the transition back to regular drum notation was seamless and easy.
The same thing goes for the D.I.Y Drumming Online Curriculum. Once students progress through the different courses, there is a specific free course that assists with the transition. The best part is that the theory that is used is the same for both the D.I.Y Drumming Letter Method and regular drumming notation.
